Twenty Third Infantry

The 23d corps having received orders to proceed to Washington, D. C, the regiment, still serving in the same brigade and division, left Columbia on January 1st, 1865, and marched for Clifton, a point on the Tennessee river, distant 250 miles, where it arrived on the 8th, and on the 16th embarked on steamers for Cincinnati, Ohio. Reaching there on the 22d immediately took rail for Washington, and arriving there on the 29th moved to Camp Stoneman and continued at that point until February 9th following,
