where it arrived at 4 A. M., on the l7th, after a march of 28 miles, and a battle of five hours' duration, without food or rest. The loss of the regiment in these movements was 8 killed, 23 wounded, and 8 missing.
The 23d, 107th Illinois, 111th Ohio, and 13th Kentucky, under command of Colonel Chapin, composed the 2d brigade of General White's 2d division of the 23d corps.
