Twenty Seventh Regiment Infantry

It was stationed at various points in Kentucky, having a skirmish with the enemy at Jamestown, June 2d, 1863. In that month it was assigned to the 3d brigade, 1st division, 9th corps, and in June was sent to Mississippi to reinforce Grant's army at Vicksburg, and was engaged in the siege at that place from June 22d to July 4th, when it moved with its corps in the advance on Jackson, Mississippi, and in a skirmish near that place on the 11th, lost two killed and five wounded; among the wounded was Lieutenant Harper S. Richardson, who died of his wounds January 5th, 1864.
