U. S. Civil War
Twenty Seventh Regiment Infantry
During the period following the 14th of November the suffering and hardships of the regiment were very severe, particularly during the retreat to Knoxville and the siege of "that place, from want of rest and an insufficient supply of food and clothing. At Mossy Creek, in March following, the regiment was joined by two new companies, I and K, which had been raised in the State, together with a large number of recruits, numbering in all 362 men.
