Note. —In August or September, '62, and soon after the 18th and 22d regiments went to the field in Kentucky, they were brigaded under command of Colonel Doolittle of the 18th. The government at that time being remarkably careful of rebel property, both man and beast, it became necessary for Colonel Doolittle to issue an order against killing hogs.
