by the enemy under Hood, and was engaged with the enemy on the 7th of December at Overall Creek. On the 13th it was sent out as the escort of a railroad train to procure fuel, when it was attacked by a superior force of infantry and artillery near Winchester church, when a severe battle ensued in which the enemy was repulsed with loss, the regiment losing seventeen killed, wounded, and missing. The . enemy having taken up the track, the regiment succeeded in relaying it under fire and saving the train,
