Twenty Fourth Regiment Infantry
On the 18th it participated in the successful assault on the enemy's works surrounding that city, going into action with 120 men, and of this' number losing nearly one-third in killed and wounded.
In this charge Lieutenant and Adjutant Sirel Chilson was killed while serving on the staff of the general commanding division.
From this date until the movement on the Weldon railroad, on the 18th of August, the regiment was actively employed in duties attending the siege of Petersburg.
