Civil War
Twenty Fourth Regiment Infantry
In this retreat through dense woods, with the men in an exhausted condition, many of them fell into the hands of the enemy. In this charge we lost two brave officers, Captain George Hutton and Lieutenant Wm, B. Hutchinson, killed. "
On the night of the 7th of May, Colonel Edwards in command, the regiment withdrew from the Wilderness and marched rapidly towards Spott-sylvania Court House. At the latter place it was under fire almost every day until the 21st, sustaining a loss of 11 killed, 39 wounded, and 1 missing.
