His administration of affairs, although faithfully rendered, was not agreeable to the large rebel element there at the time, bringing down on the Colonel the disapproval of a large class of citizens, together with the Louisville Journal, which attacked him most severely. It was also said openly at the time that influences were brought about which led to his removal with the small command referred to, to Green river, with a view to placing him in a position to render his capture not improbable.
