Michigan Civil War
TWELFTH REGIMENT INFANTRY
The whole force of General Van Dorn was between five and six thousand, about one-half of which fought us, the balance holding the horses. They lost (as near as I can recollect) 135 killed, wounded, and prisoners, among the latter three officers wounded, one mortally. There were six of my men wounded through the port-holes, one killed, and 13 taken prisoners, mostly on picket along the railroad. Over 4, 000 rounds were fired by the men of the 12th during the action. "
