TWELFTH REGIMENT INFANTRY
Moving from Bolivar, Tenn., on the 4th of November, 1862, this regiment was occupied until May 31st, 1863, in guarding the Mississippi Central railroad, from Hickory Valley to near Bolivar,, with its headquarters at Middle-burg, Tenn. On the 24th of December, 115 men of the 12th being in a block t house in Middleburg, under command of the colonel, a large force of Van Dorn's rebel cavalry, said to number 3, 000, surrounded them and demanded their surrender.
