The second morning of the battle I found myself in command of what there was left of the regiment, many having been scattered during the series of retreats the previous day, but our division as an organization was broken entirely, Colonel Peabody killed and I advanced from the landing and asked permission to join my regiment (about 200 all told), of Colonel Tuttle's brigade.
