repulsing the attacks of overwhelming numbers at Stevenson and Anderson's station, and although entirely isolated and exposed to the pursuing enemy for a portion of that harrassing march, accomplished it in a most creditable manner.
On the 2d of June, 1862, and soon after the occupation of Corinth by General Halleck, the 13th, "in command of Colonel Shoemaker, commenced the march from Corinth with General Buell's army eastward along the Memphis & Charleston railroad for the purpose of repairing that road, encamping at various points along the line.
