He was telegraphed again on the 30th, " In case the trains should not get in from Huntsville you will hold your position until night and then march with your whole force, and if opposed force your way
through. "
On Sunday morning, the 31st, all convalescents, baggage, and stores were loaded on the cars and started for Nashville. About 8 A. M. of the same day, and before the arrival of any trains from Huntsville, intelligence was brought to the fort by scouts that the enemy were making a demonstration on the Bolivar and Bridgeport road.
