Civil War American
THIRTEENTH REGIMENT INFANTRY
In the meantime General Buell had moved his headquarters from Huntsville to Dechard, leaving Bridgeport, Stevenson, and Huntsville in his rear, and making them the outposts of his army. On the 23d of August Colonel Shoemaker was telegraphed from General Buell's headquarters at Dechard to be in readiness to evacuate at a moment's warning. On the next day he was directed from the
game source to hold his post as long as possible. On the 25th Bridgeport was ordered abandoned and the force, consisting of a section of artillery, was guarded by a company of Colonel Shoemaker's command to Stevenson.
