Third Regiment Infantry

The Michigan boys are in high glee over the act.
The 3d Infantry having been mustered out of service on the 20th of June, , 1863, orders were issued to reorganize the regiment, under the call for troops of July following. Lieutenant Colonel M. B. Houghton, of the old regiment, was authorized to proceed with this duty, and the camp was fixed at Grand Rapids. On the 15th of October the new organization was completed and mustered in, having 879 officers and men on its rolls. The regiment left Grand Rapids on the 20th, in command of Colonel Houghton, proceeding to Nashville, and from thence to Decatur, Ala., where it was stationed on the 3lst of October.
