From a correspondent: "It will be remembered that after the battle of Chanceliorsville General Birney caused to be struck and distributed among the deserving soldiers of his division several hundred bronze medals, patterned somewhat after the 'Kearny Cross. ' The medal was awarded only to such non-commissioned officers and privates as as especially distinguished themselves in that memorable engagement.
