The general commanding the brigade considers it his duty, and takes this opportunity to convey to the troops under his command his good opinion of their conduct as soldiers in the late affairs in which the two detachments, one of the 3d Michigan Volunteers, commanded by Captain Lowing, of that regiment, and the other of the 37th New York Volunteers, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Burke, of the same regiment, were engaged with superior forces of the enemy on the Occoquan River.
