Don't yon wish he had tried it? It probably would have saved us a deal of trouble! He would have had no occasion to ask anyone to go his bail. I suppose his skirts prevented him! "The capture was not known to us until some days after it was made. Our command was so scattered that it took a long time to communicate with headquarters, so that it was not until the 22d of May that we received orders to return to Knoxville, and on the 25th of May the regiment reached a base of supplies at Guntersville, on the Tennessee river.
