During the month of July and the early part of August, detachments of the regiment were constantly engaged in scouting and pursuing small bands of the enemy in Hast Tennessee, meeting him at Sevierville July 5th, at Newport July 8th, at Morristown August 5th, and on the 4th at Greenville.
On the 17th of August the 10th was ordered to report for temporary duty to Brigadier General Gillem, commanding the East Tennessee expedition, and on the 18th left Strawberry Plains under command of Lieutenant Colonel Trowbridge, three hundred and twenty-five strong,
