This was a most unaccountable proceeding on the part of the commander, as the regiment had not deserved in any manner so unreasonable a test of its discipline, nor such a contemptible discrimination against it in favor of another regiment, and it is presumed that had he lived but a short time longer the gallantry of the regiment in battle would have secured a more favorable consideration at his hands.
The officers arrested were sent to New Orleans for trial, but were released on the order of General Butler.
About the 20 of July six of the companies of the regiment, in command of Colonel Clark, made a raid in the direction of Camp Moore, 60 miles
