American Civil War
SIXTEENTH REGIMENT INFANTRY
The 16 th shared in the siege of York town in April, and participated in the severe engagements at Hanover Court House May 27th, and at Gaines's Mills, June 27th.
Colonel Partridge (then a captain), in a brief account of the services of his regiment at Gaines's Mills, says:
" The regiment was formed in reserve about 8 A. M., and lay in that position under a heavy fire from the enemy's works until about 2 P. M., when he made a desperate charge several columns deep upon our lines. The 16th was now called upon to resist the charge, and went in at a double-quick under a very destructive fire from the rebel batteries, and drove them back to their former position.
