American Civil War
SIXTEENTH REGIMENT INFANTRY
General Butterfield being sick, I was assigned the command of this brigade, which was ordered to march on the 12th with the rest of the division to join General McClelland army near Frederick, Maryland, to aid in driving the enemy's army from that State.
"We did not get up until the 16th, when we found the army near Sharpsburg, where the grand battle of the 17th was fought, in which we defeated the enemy after a long and bloody struggle. Our division was assigned the part of protecting or supporting the line of artillery, being drawn up in line, and posted immediately in rear.
