American Civil War
SIXTEENTH REGIMENT INFANTRY
After completing his education he became a student at law, which profession he had just entered upon with the most brilliant prospects of success before him, when, like thousands of the brilliant young men of our country, he entered the army to fight in defense of his country. At one time he was private secretary to Lewis Cass. His body will be embalmed and sent home. Captain Finley, commissary, his classmate and fellow-townsman, will convey his remains to his friends in Michigan. "
On the 27th of October, 1864, the regiment took part in the movement on the Boydton Plank road, but did not become actively engaged.
