Civil War
Seventh Regiment Infantry
We then advanced toward the left of the hill upon which their batteries were posted until we arrived at a ravine lying across our course and upon the opposite side of which we found the enemy drawn up in line of battle. We opened fire upon them and soon drove them from their position, which we held until ordered to fall back to the railroad, where I rallied the regiment and took a position in line with a portion of the 3d division, by order of General Hays, which position we held until about 8 P. M., when I was ordered to join the brigade and soon after marched with it in the direction of Centreville.
