Before they were aware that any part of our force had reached that spot the colonel had opened out on them and a general skedaddle took place, the enemy leaving three pieces of artillery on the field. Colonel Campbell ordered a charge to be made, which was done in a gallant manner. They drove the enemy in great confusion, capturing between two and three hundred, and scattering them in all directions. For this gallant conduct the colonel received the following official communication:
