From the 8th to the 12th it participated in an important reconnaissances, during which the enemy were driven across Duck river. March 25th it had a sharp encounter with a large force of rebels under Stearns and Forrest, killing and wounding a large number of the enemy, and capturing 52 prisoners and a number of wagons loaded with arms, ammunition, and baggage, with a loss to the regiment of 1 died of wounds, 6 wounded, and 2 missing.
