and including 200 of the 12th Ohio, with detachments of three regiments of cavalry, about 600 strong, and one battery of six guns. The cavalry included two battalions of the 2d Michigan cavalry, in command respectively of Major L. S. Scranton and Lieutenant M. P. Thatcher.
About four miles out the scouts and advance pickets of the enemy were met, when sharp skirmishing commenced, in which the 19th participated"with slight loss. In the skirmish the enemy was driven back with a loss of fifteen killed and wounded.
