U. S. Civil War
NINTH REGIMENT INFANTRY
I directed Lieutenant Colonel Parkhurst to search the village and collect the wounded with the members of my own staff and escort who did not join in the pursuit. While so engaged several scattering shots were fired upon us from the windows of the adjoining houses, and a sudden and most unexpected volley poured in from the windows of Odd Fellows' Hall. This attack was so unexpected that our little force tell back in great disorder, but was soon rallied in the public square.
