NINETEENTH REGIMENT INFANTRY

with its brigade crossed Cape Fear river and moved in the direction of Raleigh, and on the 16th met the enemy in heavy force near Averysboro, where a battle ensued, in which the regiment took an active and important part; its brigade being ordered to assault his works, promptly and gallantly carried them, capturing his artillery and many prisoners, the regiment losing Captain L.
