Michigan Cavalry Brigade


In September following a consolidation was effected by a muster out of a certain number of officers and men of each regiment, and the reserve assigned to what was afterwards known as the " 1st Michigan Veteran Cavalry." This regiment was retained in service in Utah until March 10th, 1866, when it was mustered out. The consolidation referred to, and the detention in service of officers and men of these regiments after they had been ordered mustered out by the War Department, was made the subject of a report of the Adjutant General of the State which gave a full history of that unlawful and most unjust affair. The report was based upon a correspondence opened by Governor Crapo with the War Department and the Department of the Missouri, requesting copies of all orders and telegrams relating to the matter, as well as affidavits from officers of the regiments
