Michigan Cavalry Brigade 2
Heavy firing was kept up for a long time, but the enemy, finding our position too strong, withdrew. It was here that Captain Brevoort, of the 1st Michigan, one of the most gallant officers in the corps, was killed; also Captain Hazlet, of the same regiment, was wounded. We were then relieved by a portion of the 6th corps, after which we moved back to within a few miles of Parsley's Mills and encamped. June 2d we moved toward the Chickaliominy, and encamped at Bottom's Bridge. We remained here till the 4th, when we moved to the Old Church Tavern; 5th, encamped at Shedley's, near Hawes's shop; 6th, encamped at Newcastle Perry; 7th, crossed the Pamunky, marched about a mile beyond Aylett's, and remained there till the next morning,
