Michigan Cavalry Brigade 2

The enemy, not waiting to receive our charge, fled in confusion across Crump Creek, followed by the 7th Michigan, which charged them three miles, returning with a large number of prisoners. The position now held by the 5th Michigan was almost in rear of that portion of the enemy confronting the 1st and 6th Michigan. My diminished numbers and the exhaustion of both men and horses prevented me from making an attack upon the enemy's rear. I contented myself by making a diversion in favor of the 1st and 6th Michigan, the effect of which was" to relieve them from the presence of the enemy in their front who, estimating the force in their rear to be a vastly superior one, gave way in a disorderly rout.
