Michigan Cavalry Brigade 2


Entering the campaign of 1864, the brigade crossed the Rapidan on the 5th of May with the Army of the Potomac. General Custer, in a report dated July 4, 1864, covering the operations of his command in that campaign, says:
" In obedience to the instructions of the general commanding the division, I have the honor to submit the following report of the operations of this brigade from May 4th to June 30th. On the 4th of May this brigade left camp near Culpepper and marched to Stony Mountain, where it encamped during the night, picketing from the Mountain to the Rapidan, At 3 o'clock on the following morning the march was resumed in the direction of Germania Ford;
