The enemy's loss must have been very severe, for they left three dead Lieutenants on our hands and a dozen or more of their wounded. In the charge made, a boy named Churchill, of the 1st Michigan, took an active part, and succeeded in killing a man who was trying to kill General Ouster, whose horse had been shot in the melee. "The brigade was heavily engaged at Gettysburg on the 3d July, and on the 4th entered on the pursuit of the enemy, marching via Emmettsburg, encountering him at Monterey on that day, and on the 5th at Grovetown; on the 6th at Smithtown, Boonsborough, Hagerstown, and Williamsport; on the 10th again at Hagerstown and Williamsport, and on the 14th at Falling Waters.
