Two gunboats and some supplies were destroyed and we moved back, returning to camp on the following day. Lieutenant P. S. Leggett, a gallant young officer was killed. He-was serving on the staff of General Kilpatrick, and is mentioned in the official report of that officer, as 'a young man of great daring, perseverance, and energy,' and was on several occasions sent by the General inside of the enemy's lines, and succeeded in gaining much information in regard to their strength, position, etc."
