FOURTH REGIMENT INFANTRY

In the same engagement Captain W. H. Loveland was wounded and died of his wounds on the 31st of the same month.
On the night of the 7th the 4th, then commanded by Lieutenant Colonel J. W. Hall, moved toward Spottsylvania, arriving at Laurel Hill on the morning of the 8th. It here became engaged with the enemy, and again on the 9th. On the 10th it assisted in a charge upon and capture of the enemy's rifle pits, losing twenty killed and wounded. On the 11th and 12th the regiment was in the advanced lines of the corps, and on the 13th and 14th was engaged as skirmishers.
