FOURTH REGIMENT INFANTRY
Woodbury telegraphed Colonel E. D. Townsend, Assistant Adjutant General, from Fairfax Court House: " We are reliably informed that the enemy's cavalry will attack us on the left to-night. Send instructions. "
This regiment aided largely, as did also the 2d, 3d, and 5th, in the construction of the defenses of Washington.
It encamped during the winter following on Miner's Hill, Va., and in the spring of 1862 formed part of McClelland Peninsula army, being in Griffin's brigade, Morrell's division of Porter's corps, and was in the seige of York-town, and in the engagement at Williamsburg, losing at the former Captain A. K. Wood, commanding Company C, killed on April 18th, while on picket duty.
