Here he destroyed a large quantity of ordnance stores, and camp and garrison equipage, between 250 and 300 rifles and muskets, a large number of saddles, and quite a supply of clothing. After completing the destruction of all property which could be of any service to the enemy, he joined the column and marched for- Murfreesboro. The enemy followed up closely, maintaining a harassing fire. The regiment was thrown out as a support to the rear guard, and after a short skirmish compelled the enemy to retire. The command arrived at Murfreesboro on the 23d at noon.
