"The 2d brigade having been sent across the river higher up, effectually turned the enemy's flank, and caused them to retreat rapidly towards Snow Hill. We followed closely. When about half a mile from the base of the hill, they took up a position and attempted to make a stand, opening on us with four pieces of artillery. "The 7th Pennsylvania advanced directly up the road, the 4th Michigan over the fields to the right, the artillery, 10th Ohio, and 1st Middle Tennessee slowly following the 7th Pennsylvania.
