Fourth Cavalry


A mile and a half from Thompson's Station I found a force of about seven hundred rebel cavalry drawn up to receive me. My column was at this time very much scattered by a rapid march over a bad dirt road. After some little delay in forming my men I advanced toward the enemy who declined to fight by retreating rapidly.
