Fourth Cavalry III

During the past twelve months the regiment had marched over 2,600 miles. In order that the regiment might again be united, the mounted men at Little river, numbering about 100, were prdered on October 26th, 1864, to transfer their horses to the 3d brigade and proceed to Nashville. The other portions of the regiment were also ordered to proceed to the same place. The regiment had been dismounted and ordered to Nashville, Tenn., and thence to Louisville, K., to reorganize and equip. It remained there until the latter part of December, during which time it had been remounted, fully equipped and furnished with new Spencer's carbines, the regiment numbering 23 officers and 696 enlisted men.
