The regiment, still in command of Colonel Pritchard, remained at Selma until the morning of the 7th, assisting in building pontoons, when the division crossed the Alabama river. On the night of the 12th it crossed Big Swamp creek on pontoons, built from the planks of a house which had been pulled, down for that purpose. Proceeding onward the city of Montgomery was reached, and peaceably taken possession of by the 1st division. The regiment, with its brigade, marched through Columbus on the l?th, which had been assaulted and taken by the 4th division on the previous night.
