Here, near Lovejoy s Station, Colonel Minty led his brigade, his own old regiment, the 4th Michigan, being in the center, in one of the most brilliant and successful cavalry charges of the war, literally cutting his way through the rebel army and saving Kilpatrick's command. Minty's brigade has been known as the 1st Brigade, 2d Cavalry Division, and was composed of the 4th United States, 7th Pennsylvania and 4th Michigan Cavalry in the reorganization now going on, it is to be known as the 2d brigade of the 2d Division, and been earnestly conduct while with the 3d Michigan Cavalry.
