Fourteenth Regiment Infantry
Fitzgibbon of the 14th Michigan Cavalry (mounted infantry) with 120 men
met at Lawerenceburg, thirty five miles beyond Columbia the combined forces of Cook
Kirk, Williams and Scottes rebel cavalry numbering 400 men, yesterday. After four
desperate charges resulting in a loss to the rebels of eight killed seven wounded and
twenty four prisoners, they retreated. None killed on the federal side and but three
wounded. Major Fitzgibbon had a horse killed under him. Among the rebel prisoners are one captain and two lieutenants.
