American Civil War
Fourteenth Regiment Infantry
The captain saw immediately that in his prisoner he recognized the oft-described features of Dick McCann, and said: ' You can come no games on me; you are Dick McCann. ' He replied, Yes sir; I am Major J. R. McCann, and I am your prisoner. ' He and his men were lodged in jail in this town on Wednesday night, and were sent under guard to Nashville Thursday afternoon. "
On the 6th of September the regiment was ordered to be mounted, and eight companies were sent to Columbia, provided with Spencer rifles, revolvers, and a complete outfit of cavalry equipments, together with a section of light artillery.
