United States Civil War
FIFTH REGIMENT INFANTRY
"Preparations were made during the night, and at precisely the hour mentioned the line moved forward over our works and through a piece of woods with very thick undergrowth, driving the enemy before us. In the charge the brigade took two lines of the enemy's works, and advanced to the plank road near the ' Hare House, ' which leads to Petersburg. Here the brigade halted and re-formed in order to make another charge upon a strong line in our front about 350 yards distant over an ascending plain.
