From here they entered the Southern Confederacy on the 20th day of June, by way of Parkersburg, in company with the 9th Ohio Infantry, commanded by Colonel McCook, who, it will be remembered was killed by guerrillas below Wartrace, Tenn., 18. 62. At Clarksburg the guns were placed in battery to receive in a proper manner the promised visit of Governor Wise, which was, according to appointment, to have been made on that day, the 28th of June.
