Civil War Artillery
First Regiment Light Artillery
The cold was so intense that the men could not sleep. Accompanied by a few comrades, I took a stroll over the field. We witnessed some horrible sights. Mangled and mutilated forms lay in all directions, and the air was filled with the groans of the wounded. In a conversation with a few of the rebels who lay wounded from our canister, I learned that a large number of their Tennessee troops have mutinied and refuse to fight any longer. They have no hopes of gaining their independence. Some of our boys took them some coffee and crackers.
