Civil War Artillery
First Regiment Light Artillery
General Rousseau, who knew the stuff of which Loomis was composed, sent him word to let them go away unharmed. Loomis promised to obey, and kept his word. After a quarter of an hour's work, five pieces of a brass-gun battery were dismounted and the battery almost destroyed. The remaining gun limbered up and disappeared. The second battery was receiving admonitions to leave, which they took in good part and disappeared to the right, leaving the road—along which our shots fell thick and fast—in utter disgust.
